Regina Public Library Legal Resources Fair

May 1, 2016

By Alan Kilpatrick

On April 14, the Regina Public Library held its first annual Legal Resource Fair in recognition of the Canadian Bar Association’s Law Day.

During the bustling and lively all-day fair, members of the public learned about their legal rights and the wide variety of free legal service providers in Regina.  Community organizations helped make the fair a real success by hosting interesting workshops throughout the day.  Lawyers from the Family Law Information Centre and Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan provided free drop-in sessions for members of the public requiring legal assistance.

Alan Kilpatrick, the Law Society’s Reference Librarian in Regina, hosted a well-attended workshop on CanLII and Basic Legal Research Skills for the Public.

The Law Society of Saskatchewan Library was excited to contribute to the fair and looks forward to participating again next year.  Thank you to the Regina Public Library for organizing and hosting this event.

This is a great example of how libraries and librarians are stepping up, working together, and developing real solutions to the access to justice crisis in Canada.

The Saskatoon Public Library also held a Legal Resource Fair on April 17.
